How does the AdventureEXP program work?
Our process is designed to be straightforward and stress-free. Here’s how it works:
- Apply Online – Submit an application to let us know your interests and qualifications.
- Meet a Coordinator – Meet with one of our team members to talk through your goals, needs and timeline
- Enroll – Signs our Terms & Conditions, pay your one-time enrollment fee to confirm your spot and get ready for unlimited adventure.
- Interview & Placement – Meet with our network of vetted employers through our portal to secure a position.
- Onboarding & Logistics – We help with housing, travel planning, and job preparations.
- Start Your Experience – Travel to your destination, start your job, and immerse yourself in a new community!

Can I participate in AdventureEXP during my gap year?
Absolutely! Our programs are perfect for gap year students who want a structured and meaningful way to gain independence, earn money, and travel within the U.S. Many of our participants take advantage of this opportunity before starting college or transitioning into their careers. AdventureEXP works with gap year students between high school and college and between undergrad and career/masters/medical school.
What is the minimum age requirement for AdventureEXP programs?
Participants must be at least 18 years old to join our programs. This ensures that you are legally able to work and take full responsibility for your experience.
How long do AdventureEXP programs last?
Our programs range from 2 to 12 months, giving you the flexibility to choose a short-term or longer-term adventure based on your personal goals and availability. We offer start dates throughout the year to accommodate different schedules. Once you enroll with us, you can travel to as many destinations across as many seasons without ever having to re-enroll.
How does AdventureEXP support participants during their experience?
We’re with you every step of the way! Our support includes:

What are the costs associated with AdventureEXP programs?
Our programs are designed to be cost-positive, meaning you earn money while you participate. While you are responsible for travel expenses, monthly housing, and some initial fees, your wages should cover these costs. Our participants make money on the program because the housing is affordable, the jobs pay well and we work 1:1 with you to build a program budget.
Can I extend my Adventure EXP program once it’s started?
Yes! Our programs are designed to be flexible because we know plans change. Your one-time enrollment fee is the only fee you’ll pay and you can travel to as many destinations across as many seasons as you would like in the US, including extending your program length while you’re already traveling.
When should I apply for my program?
We accept applications on a rolling basis and it’s never too early to apply. We prefer when you apply at least 5 months before your desired start date so we have time to work our magic and find the perfect opportunity for you.
What sets Adventure EXP apart from other gap year programs?
We offer cost-positive programs so our students actually make money on the program while learning about themselves, gaining new skills, meeting new people and just having fun in beautiful places. We use the expression “Earn your right to learn in a beautiful place” which means you’re taking responsibility and ownership of all your accomplishments–which leads to incredible results for our participants.
Are there opportunities to earn college credit through AdventureEXP’s programs?
Yes! We have an online course called the Life Skills Course that goes alongside all of our programs. It is accredited and you can receive 9 US college credits for completing it. You’re not required to do the course but it is included in your enrollment.
Do the jobs require experience through AdventureEXP’s destination work programs?
No, most of the jobs are entry level and no experience is required. Most of our students are not interested in a career in hospitality, tourism or outdoor recreation but really it’s a means to gain transferable skills to your future life and career while earning money in a beautiful place.
